I just started this website that I will hopefully be able to update frequently to keep family and friends informed about my Peace Corps experience in Honduras. I leave in 12 days and can't believe how quickly the past two months have flown by. After so much anticipation and planning the reality of the situation is hitting home. I am excited beyond belief, nervous, and anxious to begin my 27 months abroad but still have so much to do. I have already started the process of saying goodbye to some friends and family members and I'm sure the next 12 days will be filled with farewells and hugs and kisses. Beyond that I am ready to get the wheels inside the wells and takeoff for DC and then on to Tegucigalpa, Honduras to begin 11 weeks of training. I have two parties planned and can't wait to see everyone and have a great time! This is the first of many posts to come so stay updated and stay in touch!

Twelve days ... I can't even imagine the anticipation you must be feeling, or the angst about saying so long to so many people you love. I know for certain that you're ready for this challenge, though, and that it will be an experience that will not only be rewarding for the next 27 months, but for the rest of your life -- and those for so many people you haven't even met yet.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to party with you on the 21st!
Love ya, kiddo.

Now It's 11, then we will need to find new beaches to toss the Fris, new nature beaches and different shells, possibly the same ocean but different waves...... Lindsay you know how much we will miss you and that unabated laugh, those tiki bar nights on that one particular harbor, but most of all the passion that resides within that enormous heart of yours. Go and fix the world, if anyone can, you can
ReplyDeleteI Love You Linds, P.P.
Ms Linds,
ReplyDeleteWe only have 7 more days, the time is flying by for us. Papa Pirate forgot to mention sea glass on our new beaches that we will explore. Just remember how small of a world we live in, and were just a plane ride away. So go embrace the world and it's wonderful people. I'm very proud of the decisions you have made to help and give back to our world. I love you sweetie.

Here's info on a point of interest in Honduras, discovered during my extensive (well, five minutes' worth) research on Honduran beers. Be warned: Don't get gaudy, and don't let those morals get loose!

"Cerveza Port Royal Export is together with Barena and Salva Vida the most popular beers in Honduras. They all come from the country's largest brewery, Cerveceria Hondurena. Port Royal was the centre of shipping commerce in the Caribic in the 17th century. At that time it had a reputation as the "richest and wickedest city in the world". It was notorious for its gaudy displays of wealth and loose morals, and was a popular place for pirates. During the 17th century, the British actively encouraged and even paid buccaneers based at Port Royal to attack Spanish and French shipping."
